Moving House
Soon the house will be filled again,
Our boxes have been carried off,
The walls are bare, we only leave
White patches where our pictures hung.
Dust settles widely now among
The places where we used to move.
And though we are most glad to go
We want to leave some hint behind,
Nothing so powerful as a ghost
But some part of us to remind
New tenants whom we do not know
That the old house is not resigned
To wind and dust and spaces cut
Clean where our furniture was put.
We want to flourish our old selves
And frighten the new owners, but
We quite forget they will be glad
To find some trace upon the shelves
Of our own past, that what they dread,
Like us, is space untenanted.

Oh it is a strange time moving house isn't it? We had to moved out of our long term rented place seven years ago after the death of the elderly owner. It bought up so many feelings and so much stuff.
ReplyDeleteI wish you well with your move and may your new home be filled with much joy.
Thanks very much for popping into my 'the streaming now' blog, it's really nice to meet you. :-)

Thanks Sy - Good Luck with your finals!
ReplyDeleteHi Susannah - thanks for your good wishes. Mixed feelings really, it's been a bit of a saga so we will be glad to resettle ( if transiting Uranus conjunct Sun in 4th can possibly be said to settle) we are hoping for a happier time, not least because there is a nice garden at the new house, will keep you informed! Lovely to meet you too, x
